Wireless inauguration Fon brings up USD 9.5M

, a Spanish startup trusting to make "the world's big wireless community of interests", has lifted USD 9.5 000 000 in an one round of funding, agreeing to TechCrunch

Coral Capital Direction directed the round, with involvement from British TelecomGoogleAllen & Co., founder Martin Varsavsky's Jazzya and Joi Ito's Digital Service department. Varsavsky tells he'll use the fresh funding to establish Fon in Soviet Union, and to let go a novel variant of the company's Fonera router.

spread over the company last Oct, when British Telecommunication united Google as a Fon investor. It's a cool thought: After installment a Fon wireless router, you can open up up your network to early Fon exploiters in exchange for free access to early routers when you're travelling, or you can bear down for access and have 50 pct of the issue. But it's still not clear whether the company is getting very much money, since it seems to be yielding the routers away for free, and the most interesting component of Fon's model besides regards free wireless. (A startup named Meraki is as well nerve to make a free wireless network, in this example one that encloses San Francisco.)

It's worth observing that British Telecommunication and Google may not realise Fon as a money, but as a mode to boost their own offers. Redwood Capital, an old Fon investor that's normally more concerned in profit, made not take part in the current round.
